You may have heard of the HCG diet, and have decided to use it to lose those stubborn extra pounds that you can’t seem to shake. Yet, before beginning on this diet regimen, it is important to familiarize yourself with the specifics of Phase 2 of the protocol. Dr. Simeons, the creator of the HCG diet, laid out very clear and precise instructions concerning this portion of the eating plan, and these must be followed closely in order to see good results. Therefore, let’s quickly cover the basics of Phase 2 in more detail below, so you’ll have a better idea of what to do.
The first phase consists of two days of “loading”, which simply means eating an abundance of extra calories. This prepares your body for the Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) that you’ll be following for the next several weeks. Phase 2 of the HCG diet begins on day three, and you are supposed to stay on it for at least 21 days (3 weeks). The upper limit recommended is somewhere between 38 and 41 days in total, and it is important to note that having your doctor supervise this process is mandatory. They can advise you as to what supplements to take, and monitor your health closely during this time.
How much food can you eat during Phase 2? You are to keep your calorie intake to 500 calories every day, and it is vital to drink plenty of liquids. In fact, you are instructed to keep your fluid intake to 2 liters or more, as this will do much for you during this period. It will allow any toxins being flushed from your system to move out more quickly, which should help you to feel more energized and less sluggish overall. Also, since HCG helps your body release and metabolize fat, it may even assist in this process as well.
The meals themselves are quite small, yet many people report being unable to finish them. This is due to the HCG in your system, as it causes fat to be released, and your body to begin burning it for energy. Thus, you often feel as if you’ve eaten a normal amount of food, even though you are consuming so few calories!
What To Eat
For breakfast you only drink liquids, and the approved list of beverages is water, coffee or tea (with no extras like milk or sugar allowed). Lunch and dinner both consist of one serving of vegetables, 3 – 5 ounces of lean meat, one serving of fruit and a small cracker if you still feel hungry.
The list of permissible meats includes chicken breast (without the skin), shrimp, crab, lobster, beef, veal or fresh white fish. In fact, it is recommended that you buy all of your food as fresh as possible, as preservatives are often added to canned or prepackaged items.
For vegetables, you can select about 2 cups of cabbage, cucumbers, onions, celery, tomatoes, the greens of a beet, chard, salad greens, asparagus, red radishes or chicory. Finally, your fruit options include apples, strawberries, oranges or one half of a grapefruit.
Finally, you are instructed not to eat more than one type of any food category at a single meal. For example, you can’t have both strawberries and apples, or chicken and beef at one sitting. In addition, you aren’t allowed to eat any food twice in one day, or two days in a row.
Also, you’ll be taking your HCG drops three times every day, at the dosage which you require. However, keep in mind that you will stop using them 72 hours before Phase 2 ends, as this will give your body time to clear it out of your system. Why is this necessary? This makes it possible for you to begin eating regular amounts of food once again, otherwise you’d simply be too full to do so!
While these regulations may seem a bit stringent, they are quite simple to follow once you get into the habit. Also, your hunger should be well handled by the HCG drops which you’ll be taking, making it possible for you to eat far less than you normally would. This can speed up your weight loss in a significant way, and get you well on the way to achieving your goals!
